Hi, I want to start capturing/archiving my Videos from tape. As I haven't got any clue about anything I wanted to start with a cheap device. Are these things useable?
Things like this one
I don't need direct encoding (yet) and got firewire for digital video.

You can look to the left under capture cards for ratings and user comments about cards and devices.
I don't know anything about that device but I do have a Leadtek TV2000 PCI card within the same range as that device. Works well enough, has a TV/FM tuner as well. Even comes with a remote and enough software to go from capture to completed DVD. -
You might try the AverMedia DVD EZMaker PCI. I have one and it works well. I think you can pick one up these days for about $30.
As far as what the Coalman said, click on "capture cards" under the "lists" heading on the left hand side of this page.
