I just wanted to post how great I thought DVD2SVCD was. I had a PAL DVD I needed to backup and TMPGEnc just wasn't getting the job done (even with 2-pass the quality and speed wasn't there) and I wasn't having much luck with CCE by myself (my file sizes were always too big or too small).
I decided to try DVD2SVCD ... it worked great - the sound was mixed down with Azid and converted by tooLAME - the video was encoded great (with CCE) and cut just right (745 meg per disk - it did all the calculating for me) - plus the use of bbMPEG fixed my ffwd problems with SVCD's !!
I'm a huge fan of micro-managing my own SxVCD and xVCD creation (DivX conversions mostly) but I'm going to stick with DVD2SVCD for DVD backups!!
Great results! Very easy interface!

I'm hooked on it. It has almost worked flawless for me....and not much thought required cept when it crashes....not that it does very much.

Even if it crashes you can pick up where you left off!
you should try the next beta - that works really good also
the bundle

I've been messing with DVD Ripping for a couple months on and off now, but didn't try DVD2SVCD till a couple days ago. I set it up for normal DVDRipping using all the included software. The first DVD I tried was the Usual Suspects. I let it run while I was sleeping and when I got up I burned it to disk using CDRWin. On both my PC and Pioneer DVC503 DVD player the audio is out of sync by a good amount. I'd say at least a few seconds. From reading the FAQ linked on the DVD2SVCD site it says out of sync audio rarely happens. I tried ripping it twice just to make sure but it still is out of sync. I left another DVD ripping today so I'll see if this one is out of sync as well.
Any ideas as to what could be causing this? I'd really appreciate any info.

I never let DVD2SVCD do the ripping for me - I usually use CladDVD to rip to a HD first then I run DVD2SVCD
try that - it might help - also make sure it imports the delay from DVD2AVI -- a usual DVD delay on audio is something like -80 ms .... you would see that in the DVD2AVI project name.
Also the author is very quick to respond to problems - he got me through a AVISynth problem
also - I don't ask it to make bin/cue's for me - I check the results before I burn them - I just burn the SVCD's in the latest Nero (it doesn't even have a ffwd problem anymore) -
This may be a stupid question but how you can be sure the audio delay is being imported correctly. I honestly think the delay is more than just 80 or 83 ms. Does anyone else getting sync issues when using all the built in programs of DVD2SVCD?

In your DVD2SVCD_Log.txt look for an entry for:
- AUDIO conversion
under there you should see the value for the audio delay carried over from DVD2AVI
my last one was
Audio delay: -80 ms
make sure your audio delay was used ... thats a start

I just checked the DVD2SVCD log for the Meet The Parents and it says Audio Delay 0ms. I checked my Usual Suspects log and it says Audio Delay 25ms. In both of these cases the audio is lagging (meaning you see the person talk before you hear them talking).
Any ideas why it isn't picking up the audio delay correctly from DVD2AVI? -
ok lets try to narrow this down.
did you play the files on your computer first before burning them? were they out of sync on your comptuer? if you made bin/cue's - get VCDGear so you can extract the mpg out of the bin and see if the delay is in the file or if it has to do with your DVD player -
Sorry, I was real busy with work this weekend.
Yes, the audio is out of sync on the MPG's on my PC. The audio I got out of DVD2AVI said -83ms delay for Usual Suspects but when I watch the movie the delay is quite a bit more than .083 seconds. Its more like 3 seconds. Could codecs be at fault? -
Audio out of synch on DVD2SVCD. I've only encountered it a couple of times and they were concert DVDs. After re-ripping them with Smartripper I didn't encounter the problem. I think I put that in the newbie faq. If it's whacked try ripping with vstrip, claddvd, smartripper. DVD2SVCD himself says smartripper is better than the internal routines. So I suggest doing a single chapter with smartripper to see if you encounter the synch issue again.

What's the final size of your MPEG files? I've found that often when I get sync problems w/ DVD2SVCD the final MPEG is way to small (475MB vs. 795MB). I have no idea what causes this but found that if I turn off the 'next disc overlap' this problem goes away.

For both of the movies it made 2 MPG's that were approx. 800MB. The only thing I can think is that I have had different versions of DVD2AVI, VFAPI, and other programs installed/registered on my system and that they are causing problems. I don't know enough about how the codecs interact but what else could it be? For reference I am running WinXP Pro on a P4 1.7GHz machine. Anybody got any ideas?

everytime I use this program it crashes approximently half way through. Someone mentioned it is possible to pick up where it crashed? How does one do that? I would love to give this puppy a shot but crash city.
Macros
p.s. unfortunately, the same thing happens to Dvdx 1.6...thank god TMPGenc runs smooth...
