Hey guys, I'm in the market to replace my VCR with a DVD recorder (finally Yay!), been reading the forums here for past couple of weeks.

First on my list was the Artec DR-RE 12A (+R RW) and it's nifty Divx/Xvid playback capability. But the mixed reviews kinda pulled it out of the running.

Looking at mostly 2 hour recordings on preferably both +R -R ....as a Tivo back up/archive machine....what models would you recommend as most stable, best quality for under $200?

So far it seems front runners for the price range are:

    Panasonic DMRE S10
    Pioneer DVR 220 or 223
Perhaps an LG model (if I can find one under $200)

( Heheh The $99 cyberhome 1600 is tempting at that price... (hey I could get Two!) but stability & picture quality seem... an issue. Also from user comments about stability, the Lite-On and Ilo are probably out too.)

  3. Don't know about the LGs, although I HAVE been looking at them, lately. I am saving for a Pioneer, cause I've been one of those who've had problems with the Ilos. Just my 2 cents.............

  4. Artec? No way.......

Try a panasonic s65, search the net, under $200. Come with full year guarantee, card slots, etc...... New ones only give a 90 day labor guarantee.
