Does anybody have one of these players? I looked all over the place but I cannot find a review at all.

On paper the thing looks amazing but I am a little bit wary about how good the TFT LCD is or how reliable/durable this unit is?

Does it actually play QPEL and GMC encoded XviD properly?

  2. I have it!
Purchased it from NewEgg from $195 just a day before it became $299.
The picture quality is very good. Moreover, you can adjust brightness, cloros, etc. Plays all kinds of video files, including XVID (not mentioned in specifications but it does) and QPEL.

The only issue I had was with the battery. The player would simply shut off as soon as switched to the battery mode. The same problem with 2 players. The second replacement was done by RJ Tech who tested a player and sent it to me as a replacement. After that it works great, even better than I expected. I just wish they would update the firmware to implement the long file name support.

So, you can go ahead and buy this player, it is a nice toy to have. Just the word of caution: if your player comes defective, you better contact RJ Tech people. They will take care of everything for you.

  5. Oh. Thanks. I tried them yesterday and they worked flawlessly. What type of joystick do you use. I use it with the one that came with the player and it worked OK, but I tried another one such as the logitech wingman and it didn`t work.
Do you have some sort of skips when you`re playing a movie in DivX or Xvid with VBR Audio ?
    Thanks for your replies.

  6. My player didn't come with joysticks so I purchased them separately. I have a logitech's one which didn't work.
I have no skipping problems at all. I remember that on one movie only it would jump approximately 6 seconds in one place, that's about it.
If you have constant skipping/freezing problems I would think about getting it replaced because the chip is powerful enough to handle 99.9% of video files without any problem.
Sometimes, if I tme search on a movie with VBR audio it goes out of synch, but simple pause/play or a few second rewind fixes it. And I know that it happens to almost all if not each and every player.

  7. Ok, I`ll see what I can do. Do you know what firmware are you using ?
    Perhaps that is the problem.
    Thanks.

  8. Firmware for this chip is the biggest mistery. I have no clue what chip it uses. I suspect it is a Mediatek one but who knows. I couldn't find any technical information rather that whatever was posted on rjtech.net.

No firmware update has been released so far. This little thing has a great potential. Couple of features such as subtitles support, time remaining and long file name support would've been great. May be someone comes up with a f/w mod.

But what can prevent this player from being the best on the market is terrible quality control. I had to replace it twice. Someone e-mailed me about the same skipping issue you have. He ended up replacing it. His replacement performed perfectly except the battery wouldn't charge (same thing happened to me). He had to send the second one back as well.

  9. I have a firmware that supports subtitles in srt. I think it`s a new firmware but it is not posted in the rjtech site. But letters are still small, and filenames are still short. I will try to test another player to see if it skips. If you have any other info, please let me know.

    Thanks.

  10. This is getting more and more interesting!
Where did you buy it from?
Looks like your firmware is newer than mine.

Also, do you have any idea if this player has clones in other countries?

  11. I bought it in Argentina. We have a guy here that in a certain way is helping rjtech with firmware improvements and they sent this new firmware to him. I saw another players like this I can`t remember the brand but it didn`t play divx or xvid it was only used for dvd as the advertisement said.

  12. I wonder if it is possible to get ahold of that firmware.
Our local (US based) guys aren't in the rush to release updates.
