AVU DivX to SVCD (or VCD) burning problem

The ffmpegX instructions seem straightforward for what I'm trying to do, but I'm just not getting anywhere with it. I've also searched the forum and can't find anything that I understand as being an answer to what I'm encountering.

I'm trying to create an SVCD format from .avi DivX with ffmpegX 0.9.9s. I verified that I could play the .avi file with QuickTime. I followed the steps documented at <http://homepage.mac.com/major4/divx_svcd.html>. Processing appears to complete normally (to bell and Finish). This documentation indicated I should end up with two .img files for each CD (this one should have spanned two CDs), a .mpg file, a .toc file and a pregap.img file. I ended up with two .mpg files (neither of which could be opened by QT, but VLC showed they were both the 1st and 2nd parts of the original with both audio and video), a .mp2 file that appears to be just the audio for the entire file, and a .m2v file which appears to be the video portion of the entire original.

Where do I go from here in order to actually burn a playable SVCD disc if I don't have Toast?

You can use the authoring tools separately as well. Go to the Tools tab. Select Author as SVCD in Post-Processing. Use the Browse button in Video Tools to select your Part One mpeg file. Click the Author button in Video Tools. Then burn as described on the divx_svcd.html page.

Usually the cause of failed authoring is spaces and special characters in disk name and file paths.
