Using the DAC-100 & my hi8 camera, I've tried transferring DV-AVI in D1 with several aps. Frankly, I'm not too thrilled with the results. I've gotten the highly rated scenalyzer to transfer and split scenes but under magnification, I see horrible noise and pixelization when compared to a WinDV or MediaStudio capture.
I've carried around a tripod for 9 years so 99% of my shots are rock steady.
I've been using the stock Windows XP codec in all captures. I also notice the sensative DAC-100 stumbles whenever theres a little blip on the (new) hi8 tape source.
Since there's no help on the scenalyzer, I was wondering if there's some way to transfer with WinDV then import to scenalyzer to split the frames. When I try, it says I'm missing an index.
My cap's color seems all washed out with little color, too.
Any help/suggestions/info/shortcuts/tweaks/warnings appreciated.
Thanks

Have you tried using Windv but transferring in DV Type 2? I can not remember the difference between D1 and D2 but D2 seems to be a little more universal.
I have a ADVC-100 for doing my VHS family video conversion to DV. I usually use Ulead Video Studio 8 to manually find each place where I want to make a new chapter. I have never really found scene detection that worked very well. Either it missed where it should have detected or it detected too many.bits -
I'll try the D2 tonight but have serious doubts.
Thanks
Btw, I was comparing 2 different frames with Scenalyzer and WinDV...my bad. Both now look very close to the same.
Was hoping for more tips with the DAC-100 and hi8... -
I'm using a DAC-100. Works quite well. You need to tell us NTSC or PAL. If you don't have the switch set right you may get washed out color.
I purchased the DataVideo because it was highly rated for video bandwidth. It seems that it has too much bandwidth. The detail is certainly there but at the cost of some extra noise. There are tradeoffs, as you probably know, between bandwidth and noise.
I capture from a Sony CCD-TRV72 which has a built-in TBC and DNR. I would make sure any DNR circuits are turned on.
So, I get detailed video but I need to use a good filter to "scrape and hone" my videos. I have been using the MSU Denoiser filter for VirtualDub and set very high temporal noise reduction settings.
If I were to replace my DAC-100 I would buy the ADS Tech Pyro A/V Link since no one complains about noise and it also has component video inputs.
