This so funny it's sad. How much time and money has the EU sunk into forcing this? Talk about regulating in a vacuum...

i feel sorry for MS on this one..
they were fined ($608-million U.S.) for having mediaplayer in there - then were forced to take it out and I heard that not ONE COPY of XP -N was sold ...
Plus the fact is anyone could have uninstalled MediaPlayer from the full version anyway ..."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650)

The whole debacle was just a way for the EU to suck money out of a US company. Now they want to get more money for a server issue. If MS does that then next they'll want MS to release its whole code base to allow others to compete.
Have they forced airbus or mercedes to release proprietary information used to design and bulid their products to allow other to compete easily?
Tempest in a teapot, Sheer money grab. I guess I'm a little strange but before I'd give em the money I'd of pulled the product (All MS Products) of of the countries under the EU and not allowed any activations for IP addresses in that area. Or in other words Scroom! Let their equivelent of Joe 6 pack/Noobie deaL with Linux and its easy to install versions and easy to install and use wide range of applications.
Time for the US to do a Tit for Tat and sue large corporations over their for not sharing the intellectual results of their product development.
How many computers that customers bring in do I see with only media player? Pretty much none/zip/zero/not at all/Nada. OTOH I do see Real Player (Yuck), Quicktime, Divx Player just to name 3 all the time.
Cheers
Hopefully not to political for here.

im not a M$ fan
but to fine them and force them to sell windows without a media player is a joke
the majority of computer illiterate individuals buying their first pc will really struggle to get a video and music player
windows media player isnt great but for a noob its suffice
M$ should have pi**ed the stupid EU off and refused to supply any products to the governments and put up the cost to them of gaining extra licenses to current software
other media players like real are pretty crap
if these other companies cant compete then its their own fault for having a shite product
good software such as adobe acrobat and many financial programs dominate the market
im suprised people are prepared to pay so much for office xp as it really isnt that special
the 95 version can handle basic typing and spreadsheets which is all that most home users want
m$ should put prices up and make adverts that its all the EUs fault
consumers would turn on the EU and m$ would be left alone

I like having windows media player install if it was on the XP CD. ThenI do not have to install or do a download update.
