Some Residents Of Hitler Road Want Street Name Changed
    9:54 am EDT June 23, 2005

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio -- It's not hard to remember Jim White's address.

He's one of the people who lives on Hitler Road in Circleville, Ohio.

The folks in the area are used to questions and strange looks about the street name. Hitler Road predates the Nazi dictator. Long before Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany, the Pickaway County Hitlers were well-known farmers in Circleville and have three roads named after them.

Some residents would like the street names changed. But not White. He's a World War II infantry veteran and said at least the Hitler street is one of a kind.

  3. If you didn't like the name of the street, why would you buy a house there?

I doubt the name of the street has much to do with a person's inclination to buy or not buy a house. In fact, I wasn't quite sure what my address was until right before settlement. The only street names that would sway my opinion either way are:

    GuaranteedToBeGunnedDown Lane
    HotModelsInTheirEarlyTwenties Street
    CrackIsLikeWater BLVD

This calls for a compromise. Call it "George Hitler Road" (since George is the first name of the Hitler who pioneered Circleville). That way, the sticky-beaks can be happy as well as the historical purists. 8)

P.S. But, even this may not satisfy everyone ... especially the dead Circleville residents who reside in "Hitler-Ludwig Cemetery."

P.P.S. Oh, hell, screw the sticky-beaks. Rename the street to Circle Road, then rename the town to Hitlerville.

    Obligatory Hitler pic:

Anyway, perhaps they should change the name of the road to Hitler's real last name, which I think is Scheckelgruber (not sure on the spelling).
