Will JVC s-vhs give better quality then.....

Just wondering, will the jvc s-vhs such as the 9000's, 8000's, and the 7000's put out a better quality picture than say a toshiba w-627...i have this model right now and it does a good job of giving a decent picture...but i had a problem the other day...my friend had given me a tape that had a boxing match on it, and when i played it on my vcr it flickered throughout the whole fight...i told him about it and he said he never had a problem with it...so i went to his house and played it on his jvc 4800-u and it played it just fine. I just wondering what the problem was. I didnt compare the quality to my toshiba because of different tv's but i just wanted to know if the jvc s-vhs vcr's do a better job at restoration. I was looking at a JVC 5902 and was wondering if this vcr will be better than the current toshiba i have.

it sounds like your friends vcr heads were misaligned when the recording was made...you can borrow his vcr to capture with.

Are you using a TBC?

Most high end JVC s-vhs decks have a line-tbc as well as DNR to improve stability and "clean" the image a bit...the line tbc may not be enough for this tape...if you have the $$$ consider buying a full-frame external TBC.

The TBC can also defeat macrovision protection...macrovision can cause a light to dark flicker when capturing
