  1. Yes, I know 24fps is the preferred and more efficient framerate when encoding a 24fps AVI to DVD.

    However, is encoding to 29.97 more stable as far as maintaining A/V sync all the way through to the end? I'm specifically referring to AVIs with 5.1 Dolby Digital audio. In my experience - yes - 29.97 seems to be more reliable.

    Any comments on this would be appreciated...

    Encode at 23.976, then add pulldown flags to get 29.975 playback. I have never had a problem using this approach, and get better quality output because the playback device does a better job creating the missing frames than any encoder.
