  1. Looking at the Hitachi DV-P415U. It seems to be getting mixed reviews on SVCD playback. Anyone have any comments on that. Maybe it's been fixed up in later revs?

  2. Hi. Just to let you know I have the unit and it works very well for me. I do svcd and have yet to burn one that didn't work on the unit. I'm not sure that I like the remote though.

  3. I have no problems either.. i find it likes things burned with nero though..

We like the way the buttons are on the bottom of the remote.. awkward at first, but more comfortable for using.

  4. I just check out the Wiz and Circuit City and no cigar. I'd like to buy it at a real store for easy returns in case it doesn't like CDs burned by my CDR or whatever. Anyone know real stores that carry them?

The 415 seems to accept video bitrates up to 2600 kbps for SVCD and 1150 for VCD. So an (S)VCD can be <= standards. It'll also do non standard SVCD sizes like 352x240 and lower audio rates. The only thing I've found is that the video playback is choppy with 352x240 SVCD with a menu made in Nero. If no menu then it plays great. But a proper 480x480 SVCD with a menu plays great.

So to recap. If you want to do higher bitrate than standard VCD then encode (X)SVCD up to 2600 and either 352x240 or 480x480 with any audio rate.
