I have been able to back up my DVD's with no prob's. However all of a sudden I am making coasters by the bucket load.

It always appears in the burning section, I get an 'I/O device error' or 'cannot write to medium' error (i have tried burning through DVD decryptor and Roxio DVD copy and have used different Disc's).

Could this be some software problem I have created or would it mean my Drive is dying? Sometimes It works and then to test I tried the same ISO file again and it died twice!

    Any advice?

E-Link DVD-R 1-4X and Another type which I cant find the brand now as it is a blank white face (I bought them in a spindle a while ago and dont remember the brand name)

The Unknown brand, I have used many times before and am down to my last couple of discs. Now I have made 2 coasters with it today as well as 2-3 e-link coasters.

Get DVD Info Pro and get the media ID. Use it to search the media database here and see what people are saying about it.

Since It is happening on 2 types of media that I have had no problems with before I am thinking it must be more a software/hardware problem.

Anyone actually no what an I/O error is?

Get some decent media with the name on them.

  9. Could be the ASPI layer, try un-installing all the software you installed since you noticed the problem. If it still won't work, un-install your burning program and re-install it. If it's still not working, look for Force ASPI and install it.

I/O errors usually occur during reads and indicate scratches or dirt on the disk. I would assume it means something similiar for writes (but maybe not). Try burning at the slowest speed (2.4x) and make sure that dma is still on for all your drives.

  12. If you don't know the type of media it is, suppose you could always load up DVD Decryptor and insert a blank into your drive. It should give the characteristics of the media in the pane on the right side....
