1X = ?

I always burn masters at 1X. I'm using a Pioneer A06 and Toast 6.0.9. But different brands of DVD-R take markedly different lengths of time to complete. I would have thought that 1X would take the same amount of time regardless of media. Am I wrong, or is it possible that Toast or the drive are ignoring my setting and assuming "Best"?

Are any of the burns faster than say 19 mins?
if so, then yes, Toast could possibly be ignoring
your commands and simply be burning at the
Best setting, which should be by default 8x on
8x media, and 4x on 4x media, depending on
the brand.
