NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. movie superstar Tom Cruise and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. are resurrecting United Artists, the movie studio founded more than 80 years ago by screen legends including Charlie Chaplin and Mary Pickford, MGM said on Thursday.
Cruise will star in and produce films for the studio, and production partner Paula Wagner will serve as chief executive.
Cruise and Wagner will set the company's production slate from development to production greenlighting ability, subject to certain parameters, MGM said.

I saw this on the news earlier, they were talking about how they ousted him earlier from running something else like this, don't remember the specific's & don't care to, & how him and some lady are being put in charge of this, then they went on to say how they ousted him earlier because his public antics hurt the box office sales for MI3....
& the first thing i thought was, how ?? I just watched it last night for the first time & the first thing i said when it was done was... well that was a waste of 2 hoursthe damn movie sucked!!!!!!! regardless of what he did publicly.

Being a participant in the Tom Cruise IMDB forum (anyone with half a brain and some observance will be able to guess which participant is me), this has struck me as a fine example of the kind of backward thinking that is truly responsible for Hollywood's declining revenues. If this were a rich actor of yesteryear such as Stallone or even Peck, they would have looked at MI3's loss and gotten the message that they have some bad PR to make up for. Cruise, instead, takes the Microsoft path and essentially is paying a studio to put out films with him in them. It would be priceless if it were not so pathetic.
Studios wonder why they have such a "problem" with piracy, then they turn around and practically invite the pirates like this. Its enough to make one renounce humanity."It's getting to the point now when I'm with you, I no longer want to have something stuck in my eye..." -
