I have a Liteon LTD165 DVD-ROM drive. It is set to slave with a Pioneer 108 as Master.
When the PC is booted up there is a 50:50 chance that the IDE light will remain on.
If I eject the Liteon drive then close it again the IDE light flashes in sync with the Liteon's light. After the light on the DVD-ROM stops flashing then the IDE light either stops as well or goes back to being on steady.

If it happens to stay on it might only take 2 or 3 eject cycles of the DVD drive to get the IDE light to stay off. (when I mean IDE light off it still flashing intermittently with HDD use.

Any ideas on a fix for the constant light problem?

    Thanks

I was thinking the same thing ...

Are you talking about the hard drive usage light on the front of your tower ?

... and what is the problem if the light stays on ???
    If in doubt, Google it.

Sorry, the IDE activity light is the "HDD" light on the case.
No real harm but it just bugs me because it's not supposed to be like that.
    I know - "Get a life"
I was relieved when I realised that the HDD wasn't actually being accessed continuosly even though the light was on steady.

    Thanks

  5. Does the drive work?
Usually a constant light is the result of a flipped cable.

Drive works great. as mentioned, I can get it to go out by cycling the tray in and out. It flashes while the drive checks for a disc then either stays on or goes out.
    Just weird, that's all!

    Cheers Reboot

  7. Your motherboard's sensor is just a little out of whack. It's only supposed to detect hard drives for the light, and optical drives are not supposed to activate the hard drive light, as they have one of their own.
