Capturing from NTSC Laserdisc through PAL DV Camcorder

Hi, i'm trying to capture an NTSC laserdisc by using the analogue-to-digital conversion facility of my Sony VX-2100E (PAL) camcorder.

It works fine to capture PAL laserdiscs, but when i try capturing american discs i can only get the audio, with a black screen.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get an NTSC signal through a PAL camcorder? There's a function on the camera called 'NTSC PB' which can be set to either 'PAL TV' or 'NTSC 4.43', but i've tried both of these and neither make any difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

No. Laserdisc is composite NTSC. You need a NTSC decoder and capture in NTSC format before you convert to PAL.

That is for playing back DV tapes only, not for capture.

Assuming you have a PAL laserdisk player it will probably put out a PAL60 signal when you play a NTSC disk.

The camcorder won't accept that signal.
(Not even sure if it can capture a TRUE NTSC signal)
And that fucntion on the camera is for the OUTPUT of the camera signal.

I have the same problem with my sony PAL DV-D8 camcorder when I try to capture NTSC VHS played back on my PAL VHS deck.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a signal converter, so i could convert the laserdisc signal into PAL so that my camcorder would recognise it? And if so, how much might i expect to pay for one, and from where?

Also i forgot to point out that the laserdisc player is a UK model, and plays both PAL and NTSC discs. I don't know if that's relevant at all.

You might want to simply get an Analog to DV converter. Most can do both NTSC and PAL. This bypasses your camcorder but saves you having to go to tape first.
