I have been wondering if it could be possible to record what is
being displayed in my computer screen (I playing UTK4) directly
to a second hard disk in the same computer using the following
    setup:

Connect an S-Video cable from the Video out connector of an
Nvidia Video card to my hardware mpeg encoder card (both in the
    same computer)

Is there any kind of risk to this crazy idea ?

I tried to purchase FRAPS, but then the paypal crap stopped me
    from doing it.

Well if you a hardware mpeg encoder card you really don't need Fraps at all.
Let say you have PVR 150/250 so all you need to do is connect the S-Video cable from the Video card TVout to your (PVR 150/250) hardware mpeg encoder card and start WinTV2000 setup the way you want it start REC then start UTK4 ocen your done with UTK4 and you have exit the game then stop REC and edit the clip.

    Hi Abbadon,

There are a number of apps, mostly (if not all) capturing to AVI:

    Freeware
    CamStudio
    AviScreen Classic

    Costs, but not much
    CapturePad
    Game Cam
    Hypercam
    Snagit

    Good luck.

    Hi daamon,

I have already tried several of these applications, most of them consume a lot of system resources and make the game run very slow.

    Thanks anyway for the advise.

    Do what I do

1: Setup the tv ouput correctly
2: Run an rca cable to the video input on the vcr
2: Get hold of one of those cable's that has a stereo headphone plug on one end , and 2 rca connectors on the other
3: Headphone socket into audio out on pc sound card
4: Rca end to vcr audio input

5: High quality tapes help here

    6: Start game
    7: Hit vcr record
    8: Play game

    ------------------------------

9: Stop recorder when done , and rewind
10: Swap rca cable connections from inputs now to outputs
11: Stereo headphone jack too line-in
12: Rca from videocard output now on video capture device video input

    13: Start recording on pc
14: Replay vcr captured video back

15: Stop when captured has completed
16: Repeat steps again for more in game capture

Too save time I have two sets of cables and a switch box I made myself to switch between playstation , xbox , vcr , dvd player , and the paytv comes through the vcr anyway .

Fun and games at my place , and the occasional serious dvd editing as well .....
