I've tried it like 5 times (each time taking about 8+ hours to convert) and each time it fails. I do get something in my Document folder thats says its a .toast but it has zero size. However in the Roxio converted items folder i wind up with 2 items (which subsequently disappear and i absolutly cannot find them) ending with wierd like .m2v and .ac3, i think. What the heck am i doing wrong here?

I would really appreciate any help anyone can offer, thanks.

Please read this post, specifically my comments:

    This addresses .avi files.

I assume that you have placed the files in the Toast Video tab window, selected DVD, and trying to make a disc image
of the complied DVD Video _TS folder?

If so Toast cannot due anything until it first converts the
.avi ( since .avi is not a QT Spec file) into something usuable,
then convert up into muxed streams ( m2v, ac3) for
DVD Creation, then image that file. The short answer:

The .avi is hosing the conversion process.
    Follow the rules of Q.R.E.A.M.
(Quicktime Rules Everything [on] A Macintosh)
and make the file a QT compatible file ( .mov)
and then drag and drop into Toast.
Your headaches will then be solved.

Ok, well i bought the registration code for QT Pro, then tried to convert an AVI to a QT Movie (.mov) and after 2 attempts of 8+ hours each of my processor apinning its wheels, the progress bar seems to hang up at approx. 35-40% of the conversion. I'm not sure what's going wrong. What if i tried to convert to a MP4? Would that work in toast? I guess I'll try to convert a different AVI file before I change what i convert the AVI into.

    thanks,

To get the avi file converted over into
a QT .mov file, you need to follow
along with what's being discussed in this thread :

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=269235

then we can help you get the files converted.

    Video track is DivX 3.11
and Audio is MPEG Layer 3.
All my avi's play fine on my computer by the way. I'm rarely missing any codec. Is this the info you were looking for?

Try DivxDoctor. It should yield a file that can be played back with QT player (even non-Pro).

    Bill, yes.
    go to versiontracker.com,
and follow Rumple's suggestion to get Divx Doxtor II.
It will make QT compatible files, (.mov) which from there,
these files will encode more smoothly through Toast.
