Hi all, I've used svcd2dvd for a while now and cannot praise the software enough. However, the last 3 dvd's I have burnt have "skipped" around halfway thru, this happened after rc8. It may be coincidental because at the same time, i'm using a different brand of dvd-r, not a cheapy, just a different brand. any ideas?. All "skipping" movies have occured on a merge authoring. regards

Can you describe your "skipping" in more detail? Once? continuously? at the merge point?

Thanks for getting back ChrissBoy. The "skipping" is a momentary "freeze-frame" at around 45-50 minutes into the movie. If left to play, the movies will hop, skip, and jump, for 2-6 mins, with intermittant "normal" playback, then rest of movie plays ok. I have just burnt another movie, comprising 2 avi's, using merge, but burning at a lower speed of 4x, and closing everything to free resources. This burn is fine. Points to over stretched resources during burning? ( via nero ). Another relevant (?) point is that all "skipping" movies are those that fill the dvd-r to the max, using shrink to fit.
    Cheers

im having the same problems with the dvd skipping on my Episodic DVDR i made with 4 episodes of 24, it plays fine through most of it then when it gets the the middle of an episode it starts to freeze frame and stops, then plays then stops.. btw im using OSI Disk DVD-R Premium and never had a problem with the dvd skipping so i know its not the dvd-r making it skip, plus i tryed it in 3 stand alone dvd players and they did the same thing with the skipping

  6. I have also had the same problem with jumping but mine is with sound only. The picture is fine but after about 45 mins or so the audio jumps every 10 seconds for 5 ot 6 mins then goes back to normal

    spitfire7, cheersm8:

    1) does the same DVD skip on the PC?
    2) are these S2D runs which involve AVI conversions and/or PAL to NTSC conversions?

    ChrissyBoy,

    1) All "skipping" DVD's play ok with WMP 10 ( no sound tho, but that is a codec issue with wmp 10, not a dvd problem ). All "skipping" DVD's result in a "programme not responding, end now" error with powerdvd 6, and the powerdvd programme locks-up.
    2) All are "merge" S2D runs, either with multiple avi's ( a multipart/split movie )or mpegs extracted from bin/cue's using Isobuster v 1.4
    3) None of the "skipping" DVD's have any sound synch issues, even after the skipping part has played, sound is still in perfect synch.
    4) the "skipping" parts have no pixelation or blockyness as in a corrupt divx convertion ( green blocks ) more of and intermittant "freeze-frame" and jerkyness.
    5) "skip-frame" and FF do not work via the players remote during the error part of the movie
    6) None of the "skipping" DVD's will play using VLC videoLan media player

ChrissyBoy and All, I have now encoded, and burnt, a couple of movies using svcd2dvd RC9b, using "pull-down". Both DVD's were created using the merge feature, one was made of two avi's and the other of two mpegs. Both were successful, with no skipping during playback. Both were burnt at maximum speed. Looks like RC9b worked for me on this problem, many thanks ChrissyBoy.
    Cheers

Uh OH! movies skipping again Chris! I'm almost sure that the problem is naff dvd-r's. I've just re-ordered a pack of ritek full-face printables, as I had 100% success with them. I'll burn a cpl of movies and re-post on this thread my results.

Well Well! skipping cured now! the problem was lack of resources, not dvd-r quality or svcd2dvd. I've installed more ram, and am now using a secondary external USB2.0 hard drive for all of my processing. It's super fast and works like a dream. Not initially though ( users beware! ) the drive was using FAT32 file system when I installed and I got error after error untill I remembered that file size with FAT32 is limited to 4.0GB. Formatted to NFTS and it's perfick! So ChrissBoy, I still rate your software as the bizz for DVDing. Cheers.

Finally! Gone back to using my old faves, ritek full face prinatable dvd-r with 100% success. The offending dvd-r were gigatain printable. ( not sure if I'm allowed to type branded names here or not. After adding more ram etc, I had a cpl of sucesses with gigatain, which prompted me to post the above, but I know now that I just had a lucky burn with those. Cheers once more.
