  1. Please help. I have been backing up DVD's onto DVD-R's for years, but I am having problems now on a computer I just built. I am using DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 (to decrypt), DVD2One (to downsize), and Nero 6 (to burn DVD files) onto many different DVD-R's, but when I try to play I always get an error that the disc is an unknown DVD. I am using the Pioneer DVR-109 on a new P4 3.2 HT system. Any ideas?

Most of the time, this points to a media problem. Try some different media first. Media is not always equal, even though it is made by the same company and has the same designation.

Then it's a possibility that your DVD-R/RW drive is having problems. I am assuming everything else has remained the same.

I would try first using DVDShrink and burning with DVDDecrypter to eliminate Nero and DVD2One from the equation.

  3. Have you upgraded the firmware for your DVD writer ?
The latest version for the Pioneer DVR-109 is 1.40, this may solve your problem because it improves the drives ability to use a wider scope of media.
Do you have the latest versions of all your software ?
I agree with Redwudz regarding using DVDshrink and DVDdecrypter, I use these programs all the time and never have a problem with them.

  4. The first thing that I did was updgrade my firmware when I started having the problem. I am using Ridata, FujiFilm, and Maxwell DVD'R's, all are not working. I am trying the DVD Shrink program and will burn with DVD Decrypter and let you know how it works. Though I am not sure if it will work because I decrypted an older movie that wasnt DVD9 and tried burning it straight with DVD Decrypter and it didnt work. I'll try this out and let you know.
