Hi guys.
Just a quick question, I've been copying dvd's for quite a while now. My method is using dvd decrypter to rip the DVD, then using dvd shrink to shrink it back to the appropriate size.
Is it wise to copy DVD's just using dvd shrink and not ripping them first, what happens with the CSS encryption? Is that copied over as well??
Any replies will be greatly appreciated.
Peace out yall...

Most people perfer to use DVDecryptor first, as they state it saves times...but then again you add all that extra bulk to your system (say 4g+ for the actual rip, then another 4g+ after DVD Shrink as worked with it.)
Alot of wear and tear in my opinion as fragmentation can hinder your quality...I mainly use only DVDShrink, and elect to remove the CSS encryption (and use AnyDVD along with Shrink should addition protection need to be removed...ARccOS, PuppetLock, ERC, etc).
Just depends on how you want to do it, but DVDShrink can back up your dvds and remove CSS all by itself.

DVDShrink handles the encryption the same as DVDDecrypter. I only use Decrypter on hard-to-copy discs. Otherwise I use Shrink for 99% of my backups. Never had a problem with encryption.

Anytime you rip a DVD to your computer you are bypassing CSS encryption, and dvd-r/+r doesn't support CSS encryption anyway.
There are a couple reasons why you might want to rip with DVD Decryptor first. There may be some DVDs that DVD Decryptor can rip that DVD Shrink can't, but these are probably few and far between. Other than that, if you rip with DVD Decryptor you can set it to retry many times on each error, or you can rip each file individually. That way if there is any error you don't have to start all over which is what happens with DVD Shrink on an error. -
Shrink can remove CSS, macrovision, and PUOPs, just like DVD Decrypter.
There's nothing wrong with using Shrink only. It will be adequate for the great majority of discs you backup. If God had intended us not to masturbate he would've made our arms shorter.

AWESOME!! Thanks for the reply guys... appreciate it. I'm trying it as we speak, will keep you posted.
Another weird one I picked up is when I back up a movie, I then want to copy the backup movie, I get errors when using nero (dvd to dvd copy) although the copy disc has no encryption. And then trying to rip it to hdd with dvd decrypter I get some freak ass error that it can't read some of the sectors or *VOB files. Any suugestions??
Peace out gents... -

I read a couple of articles on the forum regarding this and a couple of replies mentioned that lables might cause this as well, what you think? Could labels possibly cause this sort of thing, just sounds to weeeeird to be true...

Seems alot of people tend to have problems with Nero in some fashion or another...I'd suggest using another pgm.
I simply use DVDShrink, AnyDVD (if needed) and Alcohol 120% to burn the Shrink made ISO or copy disc->disc....great success so far.

Generally, I find ripping with dvd decrypter, then using Shrink from the HDD, takes less than half the time of using shrink alone. I always, without exception, use deep analysis and AEC when transcoding with shrink.
