  1. I use the latest ac3 and xvid to play xvid encoded avis. But I also need ffdshow so all of my movies will play. I realized those are the only 3 codecs I need! But i use the 20040718 version because any version beyond that caused me probs such as the movie will show a black picture etc. Are the ffdshow versions beyond that really crap and buggy or do they need a proper configuration because ac3 and xvid are in the way? I see the new versions of ffdhosw seem way more sophisticated then the version I use now which doesn't need any configuration.

P.S. I can't uninstall any of 3 codecs and just keep 1 or 2 of them since all of them are mandatory and I hate codec packs since they always been a big screw for me.

ffdshow supports XviD and AC3 decoding, so you only need it if you want to cut down.

Do you use warpsharp? Because with certain versions it caused a black and white picure or you actually mean a solid black screen?

No major problems here in recent versions.

  3. No don't use it and yes with the version beyond 20040718 I get on some of movies a solid black screen, tacky screen etc. Are you saying I can completely uninstall AC3 and XVID and just use ffdshow and everything should be fine?

  4. ffdshow is DirectShow and VFW codec for decoding/encoding many video and audio formats, including DivX and XviD movies using libavcodec, xvid and other opensourced libraries with a rich set of postprocessing filters.

    info from: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow
    Quality is my policy.

  5. XVID also says this...and once I uninstall 1 out of the 2 codecs I got, problems arise...I guess they are competing with each other.
