I decided to make backups of all my DVD's. Using WinXP, Plextor PX-708-UF burner, Nero Express to burn.

I've tried DVD-Decrypter 3.5.4, DVD Shrink 3.2, DVD-ClonerII 2.35 to copy the DVD to my HD before burning. They all seems to burn fine, but when I play the movie, 90% of them will freeze up at 1/2 to 3/4 through the movie. I've tried multiple copys of each, and they all freeze at the same spot each time.

An example is "Die Another Day" freezes at chapter 18, "Gothika" chapter 13, "Double Jeopardy: at chapter 10

I've tried Memorex DVD+, Imation DVD+ and just bought a 100 pack of RiData 8x DVD+ from NewEgg. I don't think it's the media though. Out of the 20+ movies I tried backing up, I got 4 that work

  2. Thats not good . Sounds like the media to me.
Are you using the comp to do something else while burning?
Life is like a pothole, you just have to learn to get around it.

  3. What brand is your dvd player and how old is it?

Are you setting the book type to DVD-rom? That will make older players work better. If not go into your nero chosse your recorder and then its settings turn on DVD-rom.

My player isn't very old. It's a Toshiba SD-4900, but I also tried the questionable DVD's in other players with the same results. What I was doing was just using DVD-ClonerII to read and copy the DVD to my hard drive, then was using Nero Express to burn. I think if I stick to DVD-decrypter, then DVD-Shrink and finally Nero Express, it might solve my problem. I will be giving that a try

Also, I don't know what you mean my book type? Or where to even set it

come on folks. Its a godamn media thing.

just bought a 100 pack of RiData
You just bought 100 coasters !

Ridata is crap, and as for the others there seem to be about 25 variations each made by a different manufacturer. Which ones/media code did you get ?

Return the Ridatas, get yourself really decent discs, TY's, Japanese Maxells, Japanese TDK's TTG01's/02's, and your problem WILL go away.

Some of the ones that wern't playing I did stick labels on.

I have been redoing them, first using dvd-decryptor then dvd-shrink and finally burning with Nero Express. So far they have all worked. Kind of wish now that I had bought DVD- rather then the DVD+ (not sure how much difference it really makes, but just read somewhere that the DVD- are better for video)

AHHHH Now you tell us!! Sticky labels should be banned.
Ok, it is probably the media as well as the labels. Period!

Switch to quality media - Real TYs are best.

Rip and encode with DVDSHrink to ISO ( adjust Shrink's target size to CUSTOM at about 4,300 MBs - so it will not atrtempt to use the very edge of the disk which is the most unstable dye region ) and burn the ISO to DVD in DVDDecriper. Assuming your Hardware is adequate and everything is working the way it is supposed to be then the only other constant will be your media. You say ALL other player skip and freeze!!!!! This one is just too obvious. Bad media and Labels = coaster

Now for a bit of constructive criticism and please take this in a good light.
When you ask a question include EVERY relevant detail even is it is not obvious to you. Media make , Burner, type pf file being converted, everything else you can think of. That way it will be aswered more directly without wasting time back and forth tryint to extract info the important info. We are here to help each other out and so we need all the details .

    Please.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

  9. Most replies say media, that comes from experience. Make sure you buy good media. Check nomorecoasters.com and feedbacks on brands. I buy made in Japan brands like Maxell or TDK to minimize media problem. Also don't burn faster than rated speed, I flashed my FW on NEC 3520 and sometimes forget to set the speed it writes 12x on 4x and those momentary freezes happen. My Nero was making the computer very slow too for reason, I discovered this when I uninstalled it and cleaned registry. This latest update is much better it doesn't create slowness like the previous version all these may have something to do with it you may have read errors too , watch the quick scan on Nero or shrink to see if there are gaps or read errors ... this challege goes on..

  10. i had a similar issue with memorex 8x mine would freeze at 15-20 min point, since wasting 20+ disks i tried burning at a slower speed and it played back perfect! i still don't like them my fugi's(jap.) worked so much better and at 8x burns.
