  1. Hi

I am not sure if i have posted in the right forum or not but you guys have been very helpful in the past.

I just bought a load of DVD-RWs hoping to backup my avi and mpeg files. I have a CD-RW/DVD-RW combo on my Fujitsu Siemens laptop and running on Win XP. And yes, my laptop can burn DVD-RWs.

When i burn a CD-RW i just normally drag and drop it into my D: drive and then it burns straight away. However, when i put a DVD-RW in it, my D: drive does not recognise the disc.

I tried using Nero but that only burns DVD video and i just want to make a data DVD-RW.

How do i get round this?

    Many thanks!!

    JC

  2. Use Nero but select DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO)

  3. Hi,

Thank you for getting back to me.

I went through the steps like you suggested in Nero, however when it comes to burning the DVD-RW, it doesn't recognise my blank DVD-RWs.

It says there is no disc in the drive when i've put one in.

    Thanks

In that case, there is some sort of problem either with the media, the drive, or media-drive compatibility. Try a different brand media.
Try DVDInfoPro to see if it can recognise the media.

  7. Thanks, i've downloaded it but not sure what it does. If it helps, there is a tick next to the DVD-RW box.

  8. Put your DVD-RW in the drive, make sure the correct drive is selected, the click the Medi info button (2nd from the left at the top). Can it see the media OK, does it list a load of technical info abou the disk? If not, your drive either can't handle that media type or the media is crap or the drive is faulty.

    Pick from below:

    The media is crap/faulty
    The Drive is faulty
The drive doesn't recognise the media

  11. Hmm....Don't think its the Media cos i've tried 5 blank DVD-RWs already.

Don't think drive is faulty either cos i can view DVDs fine

Which means the drive doesn't recognise the media (even tho it should) which takes me back to "the drive is faulty"

All I can suggest is, try another brand.

DVDInfopro should tell you the make/model of your burner. Check it out on the DVD writers list here
