    Folks,

Can someone recommened the best way of converting my old VHS movies onto DVD format?

Preferably, I would like NOT to have to buy any new hardware, but understand that this may be necessary.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Kristian

It would depend on what hardware you presently have. A capture card at least.

I'm afraid there are a lot of 'best' ways. I use a ADVC-100 and capture in DV, then encode with TMPGEnc encoder.

Your computer should be fast enough to use with a capture card and get decent results, depends on what on what card you have. If not, how much you want to spend, both in $ and time.

For a VCR, S-VHS is better if your card has that input. One with a built in TBC is good also.

Yes, more info required, mate. If you want to use a PC to do it, you need some sort of analog capturing device, or as redwudz suggests, an analog to digital converter. The absolute easiest/fastest way would be to buy a DVD Recorder (maybe you already own one ???), and then you can hook a VCR staight up to it.
    If in doubt, Google it.
