How well do standalones read DVDs burned at 16x? I still try to limit my burns at 4x or 8x just to maintain quality and reliabilty.

CDs I burn at 40x. Go figure.

  4. I tried some at 16x in my stand alone and they skip when they get hot. Burned at 8x they are fine. I still like TY best.

  5. I still think it depends on the quality of burner you use. I have a Plextor 708a and when I burn discs at 8x they dont play well on standalone players but when they are burnt at 4x they play fine. I also have a Plextor 716 and when I burn dvds at 16x they play on standalones fine.

Maybe I'll try some of this media.

I'm sure the discs are good but I double-checked the fine print in my burner specs and although it can handle +R at 16x it will only accept -R up to 8x.

  8. I dont see the need for spending the extra $ for 16x. I still end up burning at 8x or 4x for increased reliabilty. What we really need is DL to come down in price so we don't have to "squeeze" any more.
