    stats from amazon.com

    cradle 2 grave: 101 minutes
charlies angels full throttle: 107 minutes
house of 1000 corpses: 88 minutes
    a man apart: 105 minutes
    scary movie 3: 90 minutes

thats 8 hours 11 minutes of video.

with 192kbps ac3 audio, that gives the video a bitrate of 2066kbps, if you used the entire disc..

that is a very low bitrate.. are you watching this on a 19 inch television or something?

You also have to account for that he was kidding about Charlies Angels Full Throttle.

I mean, no one's going to waste space or encoding time "backing up" that POS, right?

    So basically, subtract 107 minutes.

    What a joker!

Thats nothing! I backed up over 200 movies on one! And the video quality is AWESOME!

I backed up stuff thats not even filmed yet but there it is in pristine quality on my 1.5 inch portable TV screen.

SURE it just colors and shapes and little squares moving around on the screen but it still is fine by me.

I give the disk a billion out of 5.

    nice one flaystus..

one of these days i'm going to run some tests and encode video starting at 1kbps, increasing 5kbps segments, and then bringing it up to 2mbs.. maybe in 1 minute segments of the same video sequence..

I once (and sometimes still do) put two movies on one single DVD-R (not dual layer). The movies were relatively short, but the quality didn't suffer much from the compression. The visual results were somewhere between SVCD and standard DVD. I would, however, never recommend someone burning the LOTR trilogy or something like that to one DVD-R, but you can bet it has been done (at Hasbro's VideoNow resolution).

Why burn to a dual layer dvd, especially when fitting more than one dvd, considering the prices of DL media.

I can get like 20 blank single layer dvdrs for the price a DL media costs.

So, in other words, the picture quality is just about absolute crap?

  11. trust me the picture quality is on par with directv signal...so i cant comment on it whether it looks like crap if you want i can post a screen shot to have some comments about it..

right now i am in the process of putting 5 two hour movies onto one dual layer dvd this time with LP mode at 352x480 with a bitrate around 3.4mbs then i am going to shrink it with dvdshrink and use deep anaysis and maxium smoothness to see how it turns out..

i will be sure to comment on that one as well..

well i have seem some macroblocks in EP mode on one of the movies so far charlies angels 2 during the hellocopter *SP* scene... ..cradle 2 the grave came out fine but house of a 1000 corpses came out excellent as did scary movie 3.. i am very happy with the results i bet LP mode will come out even better..

this has to be the dumbest use for dual layer dvd+r's.. backing up crappy movies in crappy quality to a dual layer dvd+r.. it just doesnt make sense.. you could use 2 dvdR's, that cost 1/10th the price.. and you'd even get space for bitrate..

the only reason (in my opinion) to use dual layer dvd+r's is if you're backing up a really expensive dual layer dvd, or if you're creating a personal dvd (wedding, birthday, etc)..

its just stupid to backup a movie to one, especially 5 to 1..

  13. i dont know but i think its cool to have 5 movies on dvd in better than vhs SP quality..

the main reason why i bought dual layer dvd"s is for personal use..

i have other projects for them aswell i just cant speak of them here..

i am waiting for someone to put 6 hours on a dual layer dvd in excellent quality i know it can be done i just dont have the skills *yet* to do it..

i've put 3 hours on a single layer dvd before. it looked okay.. the source was was from hdtv, so that made the end result better than coming from a dvd source.
