    Believe it or not:
you need to have ANOTHER PROGRAM INSTALLED FIRST
This is to say:On any windows 98, ME 2000, or XP you must install a
DVD Player SOFTWARE (there are over 50 vendors of such software)
the two most popular here: POWER DVD and WIN DVD

    after this
THEN WMP will work to display DVD's..
It needs an MPEG2 playback codec from the third party program..

You need a DVD Decoder as WMP doesn't have its own.

Try alternative players, like PowerDVD which are much better than WMP. Ive never been able to play dvd on wmp.

If you're looking for a freeware, try Media Player Classic.

    COOL, this forum ROCKS!!!!!

but theres only one problem. I downloaded Media Player Cassic and Stickys mpeg2 codec, but the video came out kinda dark.

What happened??? Did i do something wrong?
or is Dscaler MPEG Filters, GPL MPEG-1/2 Decoder better then Stickys?

sometimes dvd's play a little darker on a pc then on your tv. In MPClasic you can adjust brightness/contrast by View>Options>Formats>MPEG Decoder.

My other question is. Now that i have MediaPlayerClassic, can i uninstall WMP9? Will it still play my videos/music on IE and have all the same default files?

GO to My Computer and right click your DVD ROM Drive. Click on properties. YOu can specify which program to open your DVDs with.

Windows Media player 9 doesn't come out nicely always.
If it ain't annoying you don't fix it!

(what the previous poster outlined should work if you have a dvd in the drive..right click and choose OPEN WITH, choose MEDIA PLAYER CLASSIC and check the box on this screnn saying "always use theis program to open this kind of file")

Right Click the MIDDLE of the display screen to go FULL SCREEN, use ESCAPE to come out of full screen, SPACE BAR pauses the movie,

    and yes DVD's LOOK DARK...
Power DVD gives you adjustment on the CONFIGURATION>VIDEO>ADVANCED menu
    Happy Viewing
