I am using VDub/TMPGEnc to convert DivX to DVD MPEG. I am extracing the DivX audio as a WAV file, then frameserving from VDub to TMPGEnc, using the WAV file as the audio. But the audio is still getting out of sync on the MPEG file. I checked the WAV file and it is longer than the MPEG vid, so although it starts off pretty synced, by the end of the 1/2 hour program, the audio is noticably behind the vid. Can someone tell me how to correct this? Thanks.

Something is wrong with the files or the process. When you saved the wav file, did you make sure it was saved as Uncompressed PCM ?

Do you encode to the same framerate mpg as the AVI source?

Yes, both the AVI and the MPEG are 29.970.

I'd try extracting audio direct stream in VDub, then decode to wav with some dedicated "??? to wav" decoder. Or decode to wav with Goldwave (load AVI, save)
...and no bad frames in the AVI of course?
Last resort would be to say "to hell with what's causing all this" and "shrink" the wav to match the length of the video using Goldwave, TimeWarp function.

Are you sure you are saving an uncompressed PCM Wave file? If you direct stream copy, you will get the same corrupted MP3 file with a .WAV extension.
You have to make sure that you use Full Processing mode to get the uncompressed PCM Wave file. The uncompressed file should be huge.

Why are you extracting the audio in the first place? Did you get an error message in VirtualDub or is the audio already out of sync in the original file?

Is the Wave file that you saved the same length as the DivX video file? If not, you'll need to timewarp in Goldwave like Mats.hogberg suggested.

Once the Wave file is extracted (and fixed if needed), put it back in VirtualDub (audio > Wav audio), not TMPGEnc and direct stream copy the video and compress the audio (full processing) to MP3 stereo (16bit,11Mhz or whatever your preference is). A half hour clip should take no more than three or four minutes.

If there is nothing wrong with the original file, your problem could be with TMPGEnc. I use VSO DivXToDVD to convert my AVI to DVD and either DVDshrink/DVDdecrypter or TMPGEnc DVD Author to burn the DVD.
