Looks rrrrrreally nice. With lots of features, including the ability to clean up digital video in realtime, it seems!

  2. Hi,

I am also very interested in this product and have just spent the last 3 hours trying to find a review.

There are no reviews whatsoever on this product

I recently tried a canopus advc300 which I sent back because there is an audio shift flaw with the onboard tbc. What I like about the vmc-1 is the controls and the fact that you can disable the tbc if it causes problems. I also have a tbc 1000 but it seems to hate vhs and svhs signals.

So, im asking the original posters question again - does anyone know absolutely anything about the vmc-1 ??

    Cheers

From the looks of things, it's just a TBC merged with a decent proc amp. Like an AVT-8710 but better.

No mention of DNR for "cleaning".

  4. Hi Ls, the man responsible for getting me into this game

Just downloaded an instruction manual from Rolands website and this unit appears pretty comprehensive. Still not sure about DNR being present, it looks similar to the advc300 but with better controls especially tbc on / off, sturdy brushed aluminium case and rolands pedigree behind it !

There are only 2 units in this class of converters, the advc300 and the edirol vmc-1. I know which one I would rather have

I would be very careful to insure that really is a TBC, and not just a "TBC-like" device or "digital TBC" or "virtual TBC" or any other marketing BS buzzword that tries to hide the fact that true TBC hardware is not present.

It is an attractive unit, like the design.
    Hopefully it works well too.

  6. Going to phone edirol uk in the morning and fire the questions right off !

One thing I have learnt - No 2 tbc's are the same. My tbc 1000 prefers hi8 camcorder feeds and my jvc tbc / digipure is very sensitive and erratic to most tapes.

  7. I have had a conversation with Edirol and this unit has full frame tbc and not ltbc. The tbc, agc and locked audio can all be disabled by the user.

If I can get one on a 'return if unhappy' basis I will post the results here.

Cool! Edirol is usually pretty solid. Keep us informed, if you do get it. And don't forget screenshots!

I might need it to clean up some camera work I did awhile back but right now I have no use for it, otherwise I'd jump on it. I was mostly just curious.

  9. Well im never one to give up, so im hopefully testing one soon. In the meantime I have found some extra info on Rolands Japanese website and also a quicktime video review on the unit !

  10. Even more info, vector images and internal photos can be found here -

There are some very experienced video guys on this forum and I would be really interested to hear what you think of the vector images and particularly the circuit board photos.

    Cheers

  11. Along time ago I asked if the TBC could be turned off. I got an answer right away. They seemed pretty responsive. It was $600 when I looked at back in August. I havn't seen much mention of it anywhere either. It's a subdivision of Roland though, so it can't be that bad...

Those Japanese translations are almost useless. I feel like I've got a head injury, when I try to read them.

  14. I agree, its painful to read. Tried babelfysh and google translators but both garbled the text.

I have just downloaded the dvi test files from that page, 1 with vmc1 tbc on and the other with vmc1 tbc turned off, I have to say there was very little difference between the two

Image edges were sharper but the tbc missed loads of flickers and glitches, and those are the artifacts that are most important to get rid of.

Dont know about you guys but my ultimate goal is a stable, flicker free image and then all other adjustments are simply bonuses.
