    Does the ATI MMC 7.7 require DirectX 8.1 only??? My XP system I believe came with DirectX 9.x - it seems to work fine from what I can tell - should I stick with the documentation and only install DirectX 8.1 or does this not matter much.

    An application won't use any advanced programming in latest DirectX if it's not programmed to do so. So it really doesn't matter, however, the apps. you do have that take advantage of latest DirectX will. So it never hurts to have the latest IMO.

    Each successive version of DirectX is backwards compatible, so if you have a piece of something that requires DX7, but have DX9.0c on the computer, it will still work.
