  1. I was at a local electronic store and i noticed they had 2 tv's that advertise them having built in surround sound so i decided to lower all the other tv's and turned the sound up on the sony tv,and to my surprise it sounded very loud and almost like true surround sound, what do they exactly call this type of surround sound, because we will be buying this tv tomorrow.

My Sony TV got that surround sound built in and this is called "Virtual Dolby Surround".

Yes, it does and useful only if you want to hear the TV sound, not the AV receiver surround sound when playing the DVD.

The surround sound on the TV can be used on broadcast as well as I just tried it coming from digital set top box to the TV.

It does make the difference on some TV movies too.

At start of the movie it says 'Dolby Surround' available.
