  1. Wanted to get this burner and wondered if anyone had any thoughts on it.

    NEC ND-3520A-GW : DVD+/-RW 16X Dual Layer

Only thing I noticed was that in the description it says it is DVD-R DL1: 4x (max. 5,500) Does this mean it only takes DVD-R DL1: DVDs cause I seem to notice all the one i saw for sale were DVD+R DL.

Can anyone help me on this please. Thanks!!

  4. This is a very recommended drive seems to be most people's favorite. My experience is it rips slower than others. It burns some dvd's faster than their nominal speed. For me it had put some momentary freeze on my burned movies, I use Japan made TDK and Maxells. I tested under same condition and file also burned with Sony 530a (external) it did not freeze, tried RW on NEC it put in the freeze. My RW's are Japan made like +R's they were tested on Sony play perfectly. I haven't had time to do extensive test again on -R's some new Maxells I got. Since I don't see too many complaints it must be my problem. Mind you I burned some 4X's at 8X but my tests were at 4X on both drives. I never flashed the FW. I appreciate if someone say if flashing may help, An official FW is apparently coming out in May to make it -R DL compatible. I'll keep you posted when I do further tests ( I have to watch the whole thing to check if freezes at some point).

  5. Great thanks for the info. I just ordered it so should be getting the drive sometime next week. Looking forward to burning faster than 1x that was the max speed of my old drive.
