I'm new to creating dvd's from svcd's and I understand that the pan and scan option in the settings tab is required for Pioneer DVD players. My question is when I use this setting for my player will this affect the ability of the dvd to be played on other brands or does it only affect mine (pioneer )

When P&S is selected the DVD will look fine on the Pioneer. On other DVD Players it may look streched but this may be overridden by certain TV/DVD player setting combinations. It all depends on the kit in question.

thanks Chrissyboy. By the way your svcd2dvd ver 1.5 won't allow me to start after following the walkthrough and compiling a menu, the start button remains greyed out. Any suggestions?.
