Hi folks, is there any dvds that have different or random menu screens when they are played.... My mate says the new starwars films on dvd EG: Return of the jedi... has different menus when he plays it. Like if he loads the dvd first time he gets the ship flying into the death star and the menu appears in the hanger, the next time he loads the dvd its a ship landing in the forest and the other is lukes home or sumthing.... How is this possible, i thought dvds only played 1 menu....

    Thx

    Hello,

Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones does this also. I'm not sure how. I'll guess it's some kind of random linking when it boots up.

    Hello,

I'm at work right now so I can't show you right now. The two prequel discs have three jacket pictures. That is where the different menus come from. How they randomly boot I don't know. It must be some authoring trick.

Scenarist is able to set the playback as sequential, random and shuffle.

    Hello,

Ahh... So it is a regular authoring option. Neat.

  8. This feature is implemented by generating a random value upon First Play which is checked against a corresponding list of numbers, one assigned to each menu.

It can be done using Scenarist, DVD Studio Pro 3, or DVD Lab Pro using navigation commands and GPRM registers. The problem with generating random variables is that this function does not work in the same manner across the board and some players will not generate random variables as to let the viewer see all of the random menus.

Jacket pictures are totally different. All discs have 3 jacket pictures, and a lot of dvd players do not support jacket pictures.

  10. Each of the discs in the Godfather box set has about 3 different menu screens that come up randomly.
Can this be done in Maestro?

  11. It's an authoring thing. DVD-Lab Pro also has a feature to play a random clip from a list, either a a first play item or when you link from one item top another. Example - menu - random clip - menu, or menu - random clip - movie.

  12. I thought I'd revisit this thread to see if anyone knows if Maestro can create random played menus. Does anyone know if there is a command for this to put in the connections field?

And on a similar note, is it possible to playback the video tracks on the DVD in random order upon request (in Maestro)?

For example, I have a classical music DVD and one of the options in the menu is random playback. You select this option and all of the music will randomly play.

  13. In maestro, the following line in a command sequence will put a random number from 1 to 3 into GPRM12:

    RAN GPRM12, 3

Now you can test GPRM12 and make commands based on this value.

Will that random number refer to the number of the video? And is that 3 a variable, meaning I can change it to whatever the total number of video tracks there are? Where to I assign this command sequence?
