  1. I know that the front line in audio jacks have a background noise problem, possibly associated with the display but was wondering if the DV-Link (IEEE-1394) jack would have the same problem. If I hook up a camcorder to copy a home movie to DVD will it have the background noise? Anyone tried this? It doesn't seem like it would.

  3. I have that recorder andhave used the front DV input with no noise problem. Having said that I, I wasn't aware that there was a noise problem at all so wasn't looking for it. Just played back one of the DVDs and there is no noise - even at high volumes.

As you say, this would seem to make sense as the transfer is digital rather than analogue, with the unit converting the DV to mpeg2 on the fly.

I have read a lot of people having various problems with this recorder, but I haven't seen any myself and use it heavily. Quite possibly an element of luck in which batch your unit comes from.

You might check to make sure that you don't have a grounding problem. If you are plugging in your input device, make sure that it is plugged into the same outlet as the 5005. If you have grounds that aren't closely associated, it can cause this problem. Also, try a different cable to make sure that isn't a problem either.

  6. I have read on another post that the noise problem is associated with the digital display and can be corrected by taking the lid off and doing some electrical work on the inside to isolate the display and component inputs from one another. Some kind of simple screw up that never should have been committed by a manufacturer as large as Liteon.

The above problem and the mono tuner are the only problems I have and the machine has worked flawlessly for me since day one. There is a work around for the mono TV tuner. Just use the rear A/V inputs with your audio outputs from stereo source.

  7. If you use your camcorder in 16x9 mode, then transfer to DVD using the 1394 port, is the DVD in 16x9? I have read confliciting reports on this.

    Thanks!
