Its another way of Lucas not letting go of his baby. Would make a cool DVD set though. Hve both sets- 1 in 3-D, the other normal. That would rock and Id buy it because Im a StarWars sucker.

Very interesting article. I was surprised that Polar Express did as well as it did in 3D. I think a lot of people still cringe at the thought of 3D based on their previous experiences with the red and blue glasses needed to watch a 3D film. I know it has come a long way since then, but I am skeptical it will take off as well as they are predicting. Having the venues to show 3D films is definately a challenge. I remember back when Star Wars Episode II came out and all of the discussion about digital projection. I have not heard a thing or seen a list of theaters showing Episode III digitally yet and we are only 2 months away from release. It will definately be an uphill battle getting theaters to upgrade to the costly equipment needed to show films this way.

I don't see the article. Just some silly website I can't figure out how to navigate.
Can someone post a direct link or just copy/paste the article here. I'm guessing it is not all that long.

I must be getting the same page as FulciLives. I can't find the article anywhere on the page.
OK; I found it. http://worldenteractive.com/lucas.htm -
Lucas also mentioned that he wants the fourth Indiana Jones film to be made in 3D, but first must turn Steven Spielberg to the 3D side of The Force.

unless it was shot in 3D - it is just fake 3D ..
big difference ...."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
Reshooting/ReRendering/HandRePurposing to 3D would probably be ok, but some auto 2D-->3D algorithm would really detract from many peoples' enjoyment of the experience, and would be a disservice to the general appeal of 3D.
If you had seen PolarExpress3D, I don't think you would be as surprised. It certainly lived up to any 3D hype, without being too "in-your-face" like SpyKids3D was. I think the MOCAP production style made a big difference there.

Now, all they need to complete the circuit for common acceptance is:
1. Readily available cams (matched twinned or single unit)
2. Multiple (Fullrez) Video channel file-format(s)
3. Stereo-aware Editors/Compositors
4. Distribution media that is Exhibition-Format-Agnostic
5. Backwards and Forwards compatible consumer title media.

Lucas should've filmed the whole series with IMAX 3D. (At least the new movies.) That way, in the future, 200+ years from now, everyone could see how everything looked back in our day, in 3D!

still be cool to see it in 3d using the shutter type. It should also be mentioned that Toho and some other company are working on a 3d version for Godzilla vs the smog monster.
Most of those 2d to 3d home devices are terrible, however i came across a pc one called stereoview and it allows quite a number of options as well as different 3d processes. The final product (in my case shutter) did not look bad at all (tried it on evil dead) and it did come out much better than a 2d to 3d on the fly home device. Im sure that if the right money is being spent, you could truly have a very nice 3d version made from 2d elements -
They can't even produce consistant sound for standard 2D movies (ever noticed how many movies have some scenes' sound effect on wrong channels?) and theyre talking about 3D, riiight...
Maybe in another 100 years of motion pictures history lol -

if you hear a sound effect in the wrong channel in a theater in a major motion picture - it is for sure the theaters fault ..."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -

When I hear i.e. train coming from left back channels and it shows up from the right side of the screen (while all other audioFX during the movie were coming from correct directions accordingly to what was going on on the screen) then obviously its a mistake made during one of the post-production stages, long before the reel copies that are played in theater were made.
Such minor mistakes happen almost every other theatrical release (regardless of its budget), its just most of the people pay no attention.
I know 3D movies were made since the dawn of times
My point was if they can't keep track of simple flat audio orientation during all shots, don't think they can produce flawless multi-camera features... -
DereX888 - that is just not true, i suggest you sit in on a couple mixing sessions and you can see the great care we do in the audio mix ..
then go to a theater and run the buzz and bill dts cd or the dts setup cd and see how many theaters are set up incorrectly .. or do a complete thx certification on a theater - very few can pass .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
Well, perhaps youre right. I have never seen theaters' setup actually, I always thought everything in the theater is kind of 'factory preset' and fool-proof so no one could screw up Left with Right etc etc (at least judging by the teenage morons usually working at theaters it is natural assumption that it should have been idiot-proof
)
I know about DTS certification, I read some report that most of theaters/screens wouldn't pass it - yet they still keep those DTS/THX/whatever Certified logos... but I was talking about simple mishaps like in the example with the train - I think it was a scene in one of the Spiderman movies - where just this particular short scene had wrong audio, while the rest of the movie was correct. This would have to be right on a soundtrack disc itself, dont you think? -
DereX888,
Your avatar is constant source distraction... much worse than BJ_M spider...
Edit: The 3D version will be the adulterated one I suppose. Not the original version. -
