  1. ok im not happy with my pioneer 220 for the vhs source recording (jittery unstable picture at times), but extremely pleased otherwise

i have about 20 tapes to convert

and in the morning im taking back the pioneer

    and

    getting a lite-on 5006

i was happy with how my old 5101 seemed to do the vhs, "seemed" because the didnt play back well on a normal dvd player (extremely pixilated and unwatchable for some of the recording..not retail tapes either)

so i hope the 5006 will do the job fine
when im done with the conversion i will return it and get the pioneer back because i will not have to do vhs shit anymore
and the pioneer is a better machine by far

so is this a good idea

  2. garret, have you tried another VCR? Also, the VCR you're currently using, does it have a TBC of some kind that can be turned off? On my Philips S-VHS VCR, it has a TBC that can be turned off in its menu. With it turned on, my Pioneer 420 has a constant minor 'jitter' as you describe it. With the TBC turned off on my VCR, it captures off of my VCR very nicely.

I suspect this is your problem, hopefully you can disable it. On my VCR's menu it was listed as 'Video Stabilizer' (actually I'm not sure if this is a true TBC, but turning it off resolved my 'jitter'). Let me know either way.

  3. i havnt tried another vcr (besides a really old early 80's one)
the vcr i do use is a JVC its does have the video stabilizer option
and with it turned on i has a constant minor jitter consistantly
with it off the jitters are more big pauses and delays.

i got no real other options as far as a vcr goes, the one im using now is a loaner unfotunately and any other ones i have around/availible are old crappy mono with no auto tracking

with my liteon 5101 (which i took back)
it looked real good while i was recording, no jitter or any problems
but when i played it back the video was unwatchable after the first chapter (intense pixelation). this didnt happen with all the recordings.

so im hoping the newer model 5006 doesnt have this problem
and will be a short term thing untill im done with the tapes.

i would buy a new vcr but cant really afford one because i really only had a $199+tx budget for a recorder but ended up eventually spending $299 which i could not afford. so another $100 bucks on a decent vcr is not a option yet.
