Looking to purchase a portable DVD player in Canada and the budget is not unlimited (Besides, something greater will come out in a year and I will want to replace). I am planning a long driving trip in the summer and my y year old will need to be amised for long stretches.
The only places I can find on-line to purchase are Futureshop.ca in Canada. Wal-Mart, at least the one local to me, sells two players, a 4 inch Initial Player and a 7 inch Venturer Player. Futureshop, in their stores, seems to carry Mintek 5 and 7 inch screens. Having trouble finding information on the Venturer on-line, but from the store display it seems like a solid (and Heavy) unit. Can't seem to find anyone that carries the APEX brand locally.
So basically, I am looking for either;
1) Other sources for portable DVD players that will ship to Canada
2) Other local sources for portable DVD players (in the Toronto Area)
3) Recommendations for a player
I Have a Pioneer A05 burner and burn to Ritek disks, so hopefully this will be compatable with the new player.
Thanks.

Both Futureshop and Bestbuy have some nice ones out there from $250 to $800. Take your pick

Thanks for the reply Toronto098.
I was hoping for some user experiences to save me the trouble of buying and returning. Futureshop looks like it has 6 or 7 avaialable for sale on their web site, but only has the Mintek models on display int he stores. The limited information I have seen on the Minteks is spotty at best. Overheating and media problems, so I am leary of purchasing those ones.
The Venturer model sold at Walmart looks promising but I am unable to locate much info on it. I was hoping that someone on this board has purchased it and could comment on media compatabilty, battery life, picture quality, etc. -
IF you have DVD made by Panansonic or Pioneer or may other home recorder's APEX and Mintek will not play them.

I will always buy from Walmart. They'll take your returns well after the 30 day date.
I got an exchange on a DVD player (without reciept) just about a year to the date of purchase.
P.s. I just bought the Venturer 1977 model (7" player with second screen and videogames) and I am really happy with it. -
Trust me on this!! I looked all over canada, ebay, online, everywhere for a good qaulity system on a budget.
Forget wal-mart and SUperstore, they botjh have cheap-ass quality like venturer or accura, I don;t know either, go to COSTCO. I bought my 7" Polaroid for $250.00 this included a carry case, 2 sets of headphones, charger, car charger, audio/video cables to hook up to your TV inputs & the case turns into a platform to strap in the car so you don;t have to hold it, and the case carries everything. The battery lasts for more than 3 hours and the pciture quality is great.
The sound is pretty good, but when you plug in your headphones you get true surround sound. And to boot it plays every format, VCD, SVCD, DVD, everyything and it is regiopn Free.
So trust me, this is the system to get, and just recently they got a 10" system for $399.00, it;'s nice and big but if you are really on a budget get the 7" system it is also very easy to use.....
Hope you take my advice....
