  1. I have a lot of divx clips already that I convert to mpeg2 and author in dvdlab, but I'm not too happy with the quality on it. I've read VHS to DVD recorder works better than capturing to computer because of hardware mpeg encoding.

Would it be advisable to output my divx/xvid clips out to the dvd recorder? Then take the dvd+rw back to the pc, extract in dvd decrypter, and reauthor in dvdlab?

How would I go about outputting the divx to the dvd recorder? I just picked up a liteon 5006 that has a firewire input (though I'm thinking of getting an ilo w/hd to compare). I have a firewire card in my pc, though I thought it's only an input?? Is there a recommended way to output?

  2. Video out card that will convert your computer screen to a signal that can display to a TV. That can then be plugged into your DVD R set top box.
There is nothing illegal, until you get caught!

  3. Ok thx. What about the whole idea anyway? Does this make any sense or should I stick to converting divx to dvd with software on the PC?

Software conversion. You'll be losing too much going to DVDR and back.

Really? I thought it would at least be equal, hoping it was better. Since with software it's going from divx to mpeg2, and hardware it would be the same, divx to dvd recorder. Once it's on the dvd+rw there would be no more conversion as the vobs would rip straight to the pc, and dvd lab would work directly off those.

Software encoding allows for use of filters and the ability to set the bitrate to your exact needs.

Mpeg to VOB doesn't lose any quality.
