Creates a Virtual CD or DVD drive that you can see as drive D: or E: or whatever you set it up to be. ISO or BIN images (when you copy an entire CD to a single image file) can be mounted as a drive letter.

It LOOKS like you have an extra CD ROM drive when you click on "My Computer", but it reality, Daemon tools has mounted a disk image.

Soopafresh says it pretty much. Its really useful for testing out how your image file will play/work or whatever you want to do with it before actually burning to cd/dvd.

Daemon Tools allows you to create upto 4 virtual drives simultaneously.

    Daemon Tools is the shit!
Alcohol 120% also works quite nicely for this purpose.
There are many drive emulation programs available, but these are the only 2 I have used.
Most programs I use with them see the drives as SCSI drives ("generic DVD drive"), but everything works just fine.
I use them for reauthoring as well as playback, tho I usually use Daemon Tools simply because it has a quick & easy interface via tray icon.

Its all down to personal preference. Besides

    Alcohol 120% is Trailware
    Daemon Tools is Freeware

I use daemon tools to allow me to run programs that require a CD. Create an image of the CD and mount it as a virtual drive with daemon tools and no more need to have the CD in the disk drive. This usually improves access time and performance. Great for encyclopedias and games.
