  1. Using DVD Shrink 3.2 on a 3 disc set. First two were fine. On third, during Analyzing after I've selected backup I get:

DVD Shrink encountere an error and cannot continue

    Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

I have no idea what cyclic redundancy check means. Is there a setting to turn off this check? Does it mean something else?

    Thanks

Something wrong with the disc is the most likely cause, be it a fingerprint or something similar. Either that or try ripping with DVDDecrypter or smartripper to your hard drive first and then load these files into DVDShrink.

I agree with Scottie - just use DVD Decrypter to copy the files to your hard rive, and then use DVD Shrink. There are times occassionally when DVD Shrink won't be able to copy your disc; that is when you use DVD Decrypter. However, with that being stated, usually when I get the error you mention, it is often because the disc is really scratched or even cracked (and I didn't notice before trying to copy). Try and clean your disc with a very soft cloth (I use a microfiber cloth that is used for cleaning eye glasses). This is not a DVD Shrink problem.

  5. I've .had the same problem with Shrink 3.2, I have a copy of Shrink 2.3 on my harddrive. When 3.2 encounters a problem, I just used 2.3. Its weird, but the same disk will work on a older version

  6. I've encountered the same problem except that I get an error when I use DVD Decrypter too. The error I get is though there are bad sectors of the disc. It's really frustrating. It only happens on some disc. I thought it may be new encrypting technology. I'm seeing it more often now. I'll try cleaning to see if that works. I'm also going to try smartripper to see if that makes a difference.

  7. I have the same problem, i believe it may be some new type of encryption. if the new version of dvd shrink fails, i use all the previous versions and that usually works. but, if they all fail i'll use dvd decrypter and i still get an error.

i just want to make sure if this type of error is common.

  8. Thanks everyone for your help. I'll try cleaning it first, then I'll try decrypter. I really appreciate it!

  10. I've cleaned it, now I get a new error:

Copy Protection Error - The read failed because the sector is encrypted.

Like I said this is part 3 of 3, the first two were fine. This one shouldn't have any encryption the first two didn't...

The copyright protection error is nothing to lose any sleep over. There are times (probably one in every ten discs that I try) that I get this error. The simple way to resolve the issue EVERY time for me is to use DVD Decrypter.

However, the first error that you began this thread with I very strongly believe is a disc issue and has nothing to do with copyright protection. The only time that both DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter have failed to work is when I tried to copy a disc that had a lot of scratches on it (or in a couple of cases, a slight crack in the disc that I didn't notice at first).

Bottom line - try DVD Decrypter!

i get this error a lot also

sometimes i find it is because of a dirty disk or sometimes it seems like if i actually put a smudge on an already clean disk it will fix the problem and rip/shrink the disc no problem

but more and more often im running into this problem and when i do i try DVD Decryptor and it always has an error with the same disc(s).

very very frustrating. i'll try smartripper and the older versions of dvd shrink.
