a friend of mine got a gift certificate to an electronics store and he wants to get a dvd recorder. he has an option between these 3
toshiba D-R2-S-TU
zenith xbr411
phillips DVDR80
of these 3, which would be the one to get?

Philips makes grainy quality MPEG. Nix that one. Terrible unit.
Zenith. Not sure, but it is likely budget. Sadly it may still be in the running. I would shy away from it myself.
Toshiba in USA/Canada (NTSC R1) has a black level problem (though not all machine seem to have it). It is otherwise good quality. Outside the USA it's excellent.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
