  1. I've been reading yor forum for a number of days now, and think I've tried every piece of software I can afford and still can't get a grip on how to author a dvd.

I've got an AVI or XVid movie that I want to put onto a DVD but keep making coasters. Here's what I've done so far:

Converted AVI to MPeg2 format using XVideo convertor

I've then tried creating the VIDEO_TS files using IFOedit, TMPEG author and NERO, but it won;t work. IFOedit crashes, TMPEG author tells me every file I have is an invalid format, and I can;t figure what to use in NERO.

I have Nero 6 Ultra edition, with NeroVision etc, but I just don;t know what I'm doing. Any help would be a ppreciated. PLEASE

    Hi

I'm no major expert but all you need is the following and you're already half way there now.

Encode to Mpeg2 (DVD) format with TMPGenc Plus-there is a free basic version of TMPGenc available from Pegasys. Nevertheless it encodes.

Then simply drop them into TMPGenc DVD Author for AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders and burn as normal. If movie is in 2 parts, then encode both parts; and add both files into DVD Author and it will join them together into a single movie and output just the one TS folder for audio and video. Job done!!

you're making things more complicated than they need to be
    don't mess around with IFOedit
once you've got your mpg file, just go straight to TMPGEnc DVD Author and choose your mpg as your source file
you don't even need nero, as TMPGEnc DVD Author has it's own burning engine (tho it has been my experience that it is SLOW, your results may vary)

    Not bad.

You could also try one of the all-in-one video converters like The Film Machine, very easy and free. Another one is VSO DivXtoDVD. These two might be easier for you to start out with. Good luck.

  6. I've tried the TMPGEnc Author stuff, and it says my files are not valid mpg files. the files I have when converted with xvideo convertor are

    Film_output - mpeg of 0kbs
    Film_output_aud - mpeg 165mb
    film_output_vid - m2v 0kbs

    Its got me baffled

  7. xvideo isn't putting out any video. No wonder you can't do anything with it.
Try one of the things on this list: http://members.shaw.ca/videojunk/all.htm

    Hi,
Just use TMPGEnc Xpress to encode your AVI File to MPEG 2 into two elementary streams. Than, just put the M2V and MP2 or (AC3) into TMPGEnc DVD Author and make menu's.. author it and you can directly burn from there. If you want something more advanced, try DVD-Lab Pro with many more features such as Subtitles.

  11. Get Gspot to find out what codecs you need. I think XviD in this case (from your first post), but maybe not.
Download and install the video codec and audio codec you need for this, then tmpgenc won't choke.
