trying to rip dvd and edit/encode one or two short scenes

I've ripped the dvd into an m2v and ac3. Transcoded the ac3 into a wav using GoldWave. Import the video and audio into premiere pro, and add my scene (in/out points) to the timeline. Render and preview in the Program window, and it seems to play all right.

Export to WMV using the media encoder, and when the wmv plays, the audio plays at the right speed, but the video is in fast motion (not super-fast, just way ahead of the audio).

Is this a problem with using m2v as the video source when editing? I've read that raw dv is the best format for source video for editing (in PPro), but are there any other formats that will work well? Should I transcode the m2v and wav into a divx avi and use the avi in ppro?

If you are going to convert to avi, don't convert to a heavily compressed format like Divx, use a lossless codec like huffyuv or MSU lossless.

In your case, I would consider an mpeg editor like mpgvcr, as it is built specifically to handle mpeg2 video.

It never occurred to me that there might be editors out there that work specifically (and better!) with mpeg files. I found the group under the Tools section, and I'm trying out a couple (MPEG-VCR, VideoReDo) to see which one I like best.
