I have found TMPGenc quick and easy for merging files. I get an annoying beep at the merge points when viewed.

What is the cause and how best to fix.

I don't know what causes it, but I normally strip the audio. Then use Audacity to convert the "beeps" to silence (to maintain length) and then remux. The "silence" spots are imperceptible when playing the finished file.

If avoidable - don't merge/join video files. There's always problems down that road. Why do you want to merge 2 mpeg2 files?

I should have been clearer also in that most of the time I don't get these beeps just ocassionaly.

I have got into the routine of joining my scenes from my dvd camcorder just to cut down on clutter. I might have 20 scenes and find them cumbersome. I also use Nerovision 2 and with it I just merge the scenes and give a new name but I don't think it actually joins the scenes together. I find TMPGenc easier to use when snipping out bits and pieces than Nero.

Is it just me or is Nerovision very user unfriendly for editing?

It's userunfriendly for anyting (in the sense that it doesn't do what you expect it to, and do things you don't). Like Barldrick says, use Womble mpeg vcr for mpeg editing if you have to do it.
