    Hi,

First of all, thanks for all of your help. I have successfully mastered my first VCD and SVCD. I decided to spring for the commercial version of VCDeasy. so should receive that momentarily. I am now using Windv, VirtualDub, TMPEng and VCDEasy (commercial). I am happy with the results but not with the amount of time it takes Is there any way to speed this up:

    1. Using the same software but changing settings - either on the software or hardware?

    2. Using paid or newer versions of this software?

    3. Using other freeware?

I have a 2.5 ghz celeron with 512 mb of ram and an 80 GB 7200 rpm harddrive

  2. Tmpgenc is notoriously slow.
You could try a different encoder, or change a few settings in tmpgenc.
Post a screenshot of the Settings/Video tab in tmpgenc.

  3. To speed up TmpGenc.

2-pass VBR slowest, CQ next, CBR fastest
Motion search precision also has a big effect on encode time. Motion search estimate is good enough for most encodes, normal should do the rest. Higher is rarely needed, highest is not worth the time.
Tmpgenc's noise reduction filter is good but Slooooooooow. If you need to use noise reduction, investigate virtualdub or better still (for performance) avisynth. TmpGencs other filters can cause slowdowns too.
