Switch to 96khz rate?
Entirely different approach to compression?
What's the reality concerning this? Are the advances anywhere near as great, in comparison, to those planned for video? When does it reach the stage where the human ear can no longer distinguish the difference?

I think the next generation audios would be lossless. After the standardisation of Blue-ray disk or other similar high capacity media, the recording company may shift to lossless compression like MLP, WMA etc., etc.,

CD audio is already considered a lossless format. In truth, every format is lossy because it is not the original.
DVD-Audio is spectacular but has not become mainstream. Anything above DVD-Audio is probably beyond anything we need. Personally I would like to see a pure analog format make a comeback, but I hightly doubt that will ever, ever happen.
