My apologies if this question seems lame.
Suppose I have copied DVD files to the hard disk. I want to reauthor the DVD such that a simple static logo that I have created comes on before the main movie starts.
How difficult/easy is this to do with freeware or not-so-overpriced software? Would someone be able to point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance.

DVDLab. Set the logo as the background in the ROOT, set an invisible link (turn off mapping colours too) with a timeout however long you want, that links to the first movie, or selection menu.

In DLP, I would create a slideshow (of the one picture for "x" duration), and link to the slideshow from your First-Play.
Right-click the slideshow to edit the UOP's (if you want to prevent anyone from skipping over the image), then at the end of the slideshow, link to the first menu/movie.George -
Hey GeorgeW, another elegant solution

thanks reboot
Both methods work great -- and they both demonstrate different features of DLP -- a pretty amazing package imhoGeorge -
this is what i've wanted to do and i think it's what ducky wants to know how to do. When i backup my movies, is there a way that would enable me to mark them as mine so when you play them on a dvd player, a static image identifies it as my backup before playing the actual dvd. I am talking about commercially bought dvd backups with all the menus intact. can this be don?.

Hi reboot and/or GeorgeW
Reboot - In DLP, I imported a jpg background into the ROOT, but I don't know how to "set an invisible link (turn off mapping colours too) with a timeout however long you want". Please would you explain how I would do this? I have right-clicked the ROOT, and looked around the options but cannot find a place to specify the timeout.
GeorgeW - Your idea to have a slideshow that is linked from the First-Play and then linked to the main movie worked for me. I used a jpg background for the slideshow and set the 4 second duration I wanted. When I compiled the DVD, the jpg bacground appeared as I wanted for the 4 second duration, but it was a little blurred. When I view the jpg in ACDSee, it is clear. Do you know why the image is getting blurred? Should I save my image as a BMP or PNG rather, or is there something I am doing wrong?
Thanks in advance,

what is the .jpg resolution? how did you get the picture, and did you resize it to some resolution that wouldn't look as sharp on a tv?

Using DVDShrink you can replace the FBI warning, studio intro, etc., with a still image. Use your personal logo screen as the still image and you're good to go.

On the Link tab, set it to "Invisible All". Put a tick in Autoaction.
On the MAP tab, for Selected, slide the slider all the way left.
Just above, move the Colormap to Activated, slide the slider all the way left.
On the PBC tab, set the timeout in seconds.
Set Hi-light button 1, set Force Activate button 1.
Go to the Connections tab, and make a connection from ROOT to movie 1. The + sign is the manual connection button. Click it, then click and HOLD on ROOT, drag to movie 1, and release.
Compile and test.Cheers, Jim

@reboot - thanks for the step-by-step. I will try it sharpish.
@ GeorgeW: the jpg resolution is 720 x 528 - 24-bit color - 191 KB. I created the picture in Photoshop.
@ drjtech: I thought of that method in DVD Shrink, but wouldn't my still image be displayed on screen for the same amount of time the FBI warning is on? I would rather like the choice of setting the timeout value in DVD-Lab Pro. -

You can also do it with DvdReMake: http://cdr-zone.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1500&highlight=insert+movie
Whole structure of the original disk is preserved (just like with DVDShrink) and you can control the duration if needed.http://www.dimadsoft.com - home of DvdReMake and MenuEdit tools
