When I record on my Maxent MS-215 (Highest quality 1 hr.) from the cable input (tv shows) I get an OK recording but it looks kinda softened. Does anyone know if this can be changed with different media or by other means? Or is it just the way this particular cheap recoreder records? Would the HQ setting be expected to be the sharpest - I haven't really used many other settings often?
Could it be from the OUTPUT to the TV?
Thanks.

I am not familiar with this model but the JVC M10 also has a softened look to it. This seems to be a way to hide video noise and make the picture appear clean. I'm not sure if that is your issue but it sounds consistant with what I've noticed using my JVC.
Did you try using the s-video hook up, because it might give you a slightly sharper image.Do unto others....with a vengeance! -
Thanks, I'll give the s-video a try. I'm not sure I have an s-video cable around - I think it got lost a while back - so it might be some time until I can see if this helps any.

vhs RF recording isn't very high resolution. Does your player have a sharpness setting?
